OCA-CVC 25th Anniversary Celebration
For the 25th Anniversary celebrations, we have planned
several activities beginning with a one-day retreat celebration
on August 24th of this year and continuing to Spring of
next year. Our celebrations entail the following:
- Yearbook - We have already compiled more
than 65 pages of memories, photos, stories, achievements,
etc. in a yearbook we plan to publish in hardcopies
and as an e-book by late Fall of this year. Of hundred
copies planned for publication, 50 will include
the latest CD China Song from the Shanghai
Quartet. The yearbook will have advertisement spaces
available for well wishes from interested sponsors.

- Chinese/Asian American Library Collections -
We want to promote the awareness of Chinese-/Asian American
experiences; therefore, have begun collecting educational
materials suitable for donation to the local libraries
in order to create a repository of Chinese/Asian Americans
library collections. Materials, in English and/or Chinese,
such as CDs, video tapes, books, historical/annotated
collections, folios, instructional, social statistics,
etc. will be collected via donations from OCA-CVC members
and purchased directly from distributors. Offering to
the local libraries is planned to begin around November
2003. At this time discussion has begun with the local
library systems on the coordination aspects. The collection
start-up is the most costly; however, in subsequent years,
OCA-CVC is committed to annually add to the collections.
- Web Site Enhancement - We would like to enhance
our web site to expand and improve the informational flow
with our readers.
- One-Day Retreat
- On August 24, 2003, we will celebrate our organizational
success and establish a vision for the next ten
years. Old and new friends will enjoy good times
through fun activities for the whole family. Self-enrichment
courses will be offered in the areas of finance,
health, higher education, laws, and civic services.
Special guests from the OCA National organization
and Richmond communities will be in attendance to
highlight the future of OCA and to help define the
role of OCA-CVC as an integral partner of the Richmond
community. Catered dinner will add to the festivity.
- Youth Leadership Scholarship - We would like
to promote youth leadership and create a fund to encourage
youth attendance in activities that foster leadership
skills or leadership training. Areas of consideration
will include community services, mentoring, entrepreneurship,
civic/governmental participation, etc. OCA-CVC is seeking
seed money to start the scholarship. In subsequent years,
OCA-CVC will fund the scholarship with a percent of its
annual earning.
- Sport Club
- By Fall of this year we will have organized a
volleyball team/club to compete locally. Pending
on the success of the volleyball club, other sport
clubs may be initiated. We strongly believe that
through our members' affinity for sports we can
build upon the comraderies and create a performing
organization.
